Your Meeting

Preparing for your meeting

It’s always a good idea to prepare for a negotiation meeting. You may want to show materials at the meeting to support your position.

Some examples of materials you could bring include:

  • Property appraisals and market evaluations
  • Maps
  • Aerial photographs
  • Other photographs
  • Lists of comparable property sales
  • Business evaluations
  • Tenant agreements
  • Any other materials that support your compensation claim.

Two copies of all materials should be sent to the Board at least 20 days before the meeting. The Board may extend this deadline if all the parties agree. The request to extend the deadline must be made in writing. Please send all materials to attention of the BON at:

655 Bay Street, Suite 1500

Toronto, ON

M5G 1E5

Delaying your meeting

If you need to delay your meeting you must:

  • Contact the other party and ask if he/she agrees to a delay
  • Find out when the other party is available for a new date
  • Send a written request to the Board and copy the other party
  • Suggest a new date for scheduling.

You request should be made at least 10 days before the meeting.

Send your request to the Board by mail, e-mail or fax (link to contact info page). The Board will consider the request and send you an answer in writing.

Site inspection

Before the meeting takes place, Members inspect the land. You and the other party do not have to be at the inspection.

For more information on site inspections please see:

Holding your meeting

Usually, two Board Members guide the negotiation meeting. At the meeting, the parties discuss the matter and the Members help to negotiate a settlement. After the discussions and the presentation of all the materials, the Members recommend a solution.
